
As an annual memorial, the National Police College, a Constituent Unit of the Philippine Public Safety College adheered to the Presidential Proclamation No. 164 dated February 21, 2017 established January 25 of every year as a Day of National Remembrance for the heroic sacrifices of the 44 SAF Troopers whose gallantry in Mamasapano on January 25, 2015 remains source of inspiration to student-officers and to all the Filipinos.
A Wreath Laying Ceremony led by the NPC Director and Mayor Edward Carrana, Mayor of Silang, followed by the Roll Call of Gallant SAF 44 SAF Troopers and Volley Fire and Releasing of Doves left the participants in tears and solace remembering their last conversations, and the stories as they perished on that fateful day.
In his welcome remarks, Dr. Romeo S. Magsalos, Director of the NPC said, “ This act of heroism serves as a reminder of ongoing sacrifices made by uniformed personnel, reinforcing the importance of their contributions to national security”. He emphasized NPC SAF44 Forest Park as a “No Build-Zone” is backed up by an academic board resolution to serve as a memorial to them. He also reminisced that during the first commemoration in 2017 when we learned from the Guest of Honor and Speaker then that way back Philippine Constabulary time, the same location served as the PC-SAF Barracks and Training Ground.
Mayor Edward Carranza of Silang, Cavite, the Guest of Honor and Speaker who is former police general emphasized that, “ Hindi na maulit ang nangyari ito. Matuto tayo sa bagay ng koordinasyon. Huwag mag-isip ng panglalamang or pang-iisa sa kapwa. Maging bayani araw-araw sa pamamagitan ng paggawa ng mabuti , maliit man o malaking bagay.” Also in attendance were PMGEN MARK D PESPES, Director of Special Action Force and Honorable Willy Maala, a Brgy Chairman in Silang, Caviite. The two-hour memorial activity was participated NPC Personnel and 1,148 participants of Public Safety Officers Senior Executive Course and Public Safety Officers Advance Course in Silang and via online at NPC Campuses in Pampanga, Cebu, Davao and Zamboanga. A Memorial Mass followed after the Program. In closing, Director Magsalos narrated that this will be annual memorial of the Fallen Not Forgotten.
