On August 27, 2024, the National Cyber Training Institute (NCTI), the newest constituent unit of the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC), marked a significant milestone with the successful online orientation for its inaugural Cyber Course. This pioneering initiative underscores PPSC’s commitment to advancing digital education in public safety and law enforcement.
The orientation was graced by esteemed officials, including the PPSC Vice President for Academic Affairs and OIC Director of NCTI, along with PLTCOL Jerwin P. Embolode, PhD, Deputy Director of the National Police College (NPC). Other notable attendees were Dr. Ma. Mirasol Uy, Division Chief of the Faculty Development Division (FDD) at PPSC; Dr. Elizalde J. Duran, Chief of the Center for Cybersecurity and Safety at NPC; Ms. Soliel M. Ibias, Chief of the Center for Communication and Information Technology (CCIT) at PPSC; and Ms. Darlene Castro, MPSA, Program Manager at NCTI.
The event was further highlighted by the participation of forty-five Student-Officers from the National Police College, comprising the PSOAC Class 2024-08, aptly named the “Cyber Knights.” These officers, holding the rank of Police Captain, are set to embark on a six-week intensive cyber course beginning on August 28, 2024. This course represents a comprehensive blend of lecture-based and skill-based learning, designed to equip the officers with cutting-edge cyber skills crucial for modern policing.
The NCTI’s Cyber Course aims to develop proficient and digitally aware public safety leaders who will be well-prepared to address the emerging challenges in cybersecurity. By focusing on theoretical and practical aspects, the program ensures that the participants are knowledgeable and capable of applying their skills in real-world scenarios.
This initiative aligns with PPSC’s broader mission of fostering excellence in public safety education through innovative and relevant training programs. As the first batch of students under this program, the “Cyber Knights” are poised to set the standard for future cohorts, paving the way for a more secure and resilient law enforcement community.
The launch of this cyber course is a testament to PPSC’s dedication to staying ahead in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity, ensuring that the nation’s police force remains at the forefront of digital transformation.
